2023 BMW iX M60 Review: Not Pretty but Fast!

Not all cars can be lookers and that’s what the 2023 BMW iX M60 was. I really wanted to like it but there was just something about it that made me thankful to be on the inside of it. The Storm Bay Metallic color worked really well with the titanium bronze trim. Although I’m a big fan of the large BMW grille, there was a flat area in the front bumper that looked awkward to me.

This iX was equipped with the 22” wheels that had a great design to them. The black wheel did have small accents of the titanium bronze color that made it pop even more.

Getting inside and you’ve suddenly travelled to a futuristic time. The seats were extremely comfortable and had heating, venting, and massage. The massage function was disappointing with the only the lumbar adjustment doing the work. The front seats also had USB connections behind them, for the rear passengers to plug into.

One of my favorite things about the iX interior has to be the steering wheel. I’ve always been a fan of flat bottom wheels but this BWM had flat areas at the bottom, top, and sides. I immediately fell in love with it and started looking into a similar wheel shape for my own personal car.

The infotainment system was a headache to deal with. Riddled with a large amount of apps, I often had to go digging multiple menus to finally find what I was looking for. The worst part was the fact that there are no hard button for the climate system and that was also a complicated looking layout. The wireless Apple CarPlay was also unreliable causing me to restore the BMW’s system two times. This also reset a bunch of settings I had taken a while to configure to my liking.

Now came the fun part! The dual all-electric motors put down 610 horsepower and an insane 811 lb.-ft. of torque. When you activated launch control, the iX wiggled in place as if it was a leashed dog ready to be released! When I released the brakes, the instant torque was exhilarating and addicting! Thankfully I had the Iconic sounds turned on to simulate a speed increase. If it weren’t for that, the smooth drive would’ve hidden you’re going faster than it feels.

Even though the 2023 BMW iX is beyond my budget at over $103,000, I don’t think I’d consider it if I had the means. Sure launching it was a blast, but the other everyday functions were not as exciting to deal with.
