SVRA at COTA 2022
It was SVRA’s last stop of the 2022 season at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas. It’s always great to see such a wide range of cars competing against each other on a Formula 1 racetrack. My favorite thing about the SVRA race weekend is seeing collector cars being driven to the limits. It is like watching an American version of Goodwood Revival that happens all year long and all over the US.
Attending the day before Daylight Saving Time ended allowed me to have incredible lighting during the early morning qualifying. The sun rose just enough to spotlight the cars as they came up the iconic turn 1.
As I got to the esses, the Formula Vee cars were on the track coming down turn 2 and towards me. The amount of momentum in those open-wheeled cars look exhilarating. All the different designs were also fun to watch. The drivers were leaning their helmets into the turns to help with as much weight distribution as possible.
The next group up to race were some of my favorite. This group had some iconic classic NASCAR screaming around the track. I thankfully remembered my ear plugs because you could feel the V8s roaring by.
Towards the end of my day, SVRA gave way to the Porsche racing series. Although these are modern day 911s and Caymans, I can guarantee these will be considered classics in 25 years time. The series showed some close racing.
I’d like to thank the team over at SVRA for granting us media access to bring you pictures of some incredible cars. Be sure to check out https://svra.com/ for next years events near you.
