Mercedes E450 Coupe Review: Less Doors, More Fun!
Could the 2021 Mercedes E450 Coupe be more fun with less? When we were informed that we’d get an E Class for our next car to review, we knew it would make a great road trip car. We’ve always known the E Class to be Mercedes’ mid size 4 door sedan so when we see the coupe show up, we questioned where the other 2 doors went.
When you look at the outside, it does appear as if the 4 door E Class simply lost its rear doors. It didn’t make for an awkward design or proportions. The styling is still beautiful and the proportions still look right.
We quickly questioned if the road trip will be comfortable having to put a 5 year old in the back of a coupe. The E Coupe proved us wrong. We found that the best way to put him in was by rolling down the back window and reach in to buckle him in. It turned out to be one of the easiest cars to load him into.
Starting up the 3.0L inline turbocharged 6 cylinder engine, you wouldn’t suspect that there are 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque available. You’d be more surprised to find out that even though those numbers aren’t that much in today’s standards, they feel as if the numbers are conservative. What gives us that impression is the fact that this has a mild hybrid system. When the turbo is not under boost, the hybrid system kicks in to get things moving and then the turbo takes over. The delivery of the power was extremely smooth and never felt like one system switched on or off.
After putting in over 600 miles in a week, we’ve come to the conclusion that even with less (doors), this car definitely offered more (fun)!
