2024 Toyota Land Cruiser First Edition Review: Legendary All-Roader
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser First Edition is an homage to the legendary name that’s synonymous with off-road capabilities. This first year only trim offered some unique options and combinations. The Land Cruiser model offers 2 different headlight configurations. The lower 1958 trim offers round headlights and the higher Land Cruiser trim offers rectangular lights. The First Edition sits at the highest trim and uses the round configuration. I still go back and forth on which one I prefer but I may personally go with the rectangle headlight Land Cruiser trim. First Edition wheels are painted in matte black instead of matte grey. Another First Edition option includes the branded mud flaps.
Getting in, and I was a little disappointed in the lack of First Edition offerings. The door trim has the First Edition words embossed but no additional color the letters. There’s also no color to the stitching or sections of the seating to make the First Edition unique. The seats themselves were comfortable and offered both heating and venting. I was loving the options to customize the layout of the gauge cluster to show what’s important to me. You get 3 saved options for the cluster and I’ll be honest, the system is so good, I was wanting more of them!
Under the hood, you’ll find an internet hated 2.4L 4-cylinder turbocharged hybrid engine. I say internet hated because everyone was expecting a V8 or even a V6 at a minimum. To that I tell the keyboard warriors not to worry since the power delivery is incredibly smooth and plentiful. I was confused to see only eco, normal, and sport as drive mode selections. I then realized that the fun modes are offered when you switch into the multi-terrain select or MTS menu. You’ll get offerings like dirt, sand, mud, rock and deep snow. My biggest enjoyment of the Land Cruiser was its incredible suspension that was dialed in perfectly to absorb the road.
Overall, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser First Edition made its way up to the number one spot of the next vehicle to get. Although I’ll miss out on the First Edition trim, I honestly felt like the trim itself didn’t offer enough to stand out and warrant the extra money for it. I’ll still be very happy with the Land Cruiser trim and will need to be a part of the rectangle headlight gang.
