2024 Chevrolet Trax RS Review: Really Sporty CUV
The 2024 Chevrolet Trax RS is the second Trax I’ve reviewed with the first one being an ACTIV. With the ACTIV focusing on adventure driving, the RS will have race car like touches. The front bumper has a sleeker design with black-colored trim pieces. With a sportier theme, the wheels go up to a 19-inch size and low profile tires. Optioned out with the Fountain Blue color, Chevrolet made sure we’d get people’s attention.
Getting in, you’ll see the race car special treatment you get in a RS. The first thing you’ll notice is that the seats are black with red stitching with a red line down the middle. They also have a red embroidered RS on the headrests that looks really nice. The next thing you’ll see is that the steering wheel has been wrapped with a dimpled leather on the sides and smooth leather on the top. The steering will also be flat at the bottom to complete the race look. That red treatment follows with a red line going across the dash and into the surrounding trim of the air vents.
Under the hood, the 1.2L turbocharged inline 3-cylinder is connected to a 6-speed automatic. Don’t expect to break any speed records with this drivetrain but be prepared to have a smile on your face with how peppy the 3-cylinder feels. The biggest winner in the performance has to be the brakes. I loved them in the ACTIV and I love them in the RS. The pedal feel is exactly what a performance sports car’s pedal should feel like. It would be awesome to see Chevrolet start a small Trax racing series since I think they have such a great feeling chassis.
Overall, if it weren’t for inventory constraints at the time, my family would’ve purchased a Trax. We did end up going with a Trailblazer in the RS trim.
