2023 GMC Canyon Denali Review: Mid-Size Luxury Truck
You get the rugged GMC Canyon and add some chrome to it, and that is the recipe for the 2023 GMC Canyon Denali. Although the GMC Canyon does start at a higher price than the Chevrolet Colorado, it does come with more things standard.
Starting on the outside, the Canyon comes with the wider design even at the base Elevation trim. It also includes the front bumper cutouts that are only available in the Colorado ZR2 trim. With this being the Denali, we get the iconic chrome treatment to the front grille. I do prefer the Canyon’s headlight design that separates the turn signal and main light from being in the same enclosure. The 2” included lift also sits the truck at a nice height.
Thanks to the side steps, it was easy to climb into the Canyon. I did have to first admire the luxury touches to the door. The leather wrapped door cards had a beautiful diamond stitching with a light brown color to it. The wood trim also elevated the feel to that of a luxury vehicle. The seats also had the same pattern on the side bolsters and were incredibly comfortable with their heated and venting option. The dashboard also had more of the wood trim with an added design of the Denali geographical coordinates.
Under the hood, the Canyon only gets the higher output tuned 2.7L inline 4 turbocharged engine connected to the 8-Speed auto. Although the wheels on the Denali are larger 20”, the power still felt plenty to rotate the big wheels. I did feel the sidewall of the tires were too small which translated into feeling all the bumps inside the cabin. The perfect setup I’ve experienced was the Colorado ZR2’s 17” wheel with the multimatic suspension.
Overall, I the 2023 GMC Canyon Denali is a great choice for those wanting a little bit more luxury feel in the Canyon/Colorado lineup.
