2022 Kia EV6 RWD Review: Futuristic Design for Today
The 2022 Kia EV6 RWD exterior design is guaranteed to get everyone’s attention. When I saw that Steel Matte Gray color, it immediately reminded me of the ED-209 from the RoboCop movie. The lines on the hood helped shape the headlights to have a sharp and menacing design to them. The 19” alloy wheels were wrapped in a surprisingly tall Kumho tire. I was not expecting that tall of a sidewall, but it did help with the overall ride quality. I personally like the larger 20” size that is offered in the e-AWD model.
As you approach the Kia EV6, the door handles will pop out from their hidden spot. Once you get in, you’ll feel as if you’ve travelled to the future. The interior styling has a concept car look to it that makes it very fun to experience. The floating center console allowed for large storage underneath it. The wireless charger was a great ergonomic design except the EV6 lacks wireless Apple CarPlay. Due to that, it required that I run a USB cable from an awkwardly low dash area of the EV6. The optional suede seats provided great comfort and the venting helps incredibly during the days with over 100 degree temperatures.
The Kia EV6 RWD has a 168 kW electric motor generating 225 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. Although the numbers are on the conservative side for EVs, the power delivery was still smooth and exciting to experience the instant torque. The big thing we encountered was the lack of charger included in the Kia. It did have an adapter but required a power cord with 2 male ends. This had me searching for different EV charging stations in my area. To my luck, my area had multiple charging stations available. Thankfully we didn’t drive the vehicle enough to need additional charge. I’ve since installed my home EV charger and won’t have to worry for future reviews.
Overall, the 2022 Kia EV6 is a step in the right direction for the EV world. The fun design makes it appealing to many and the driving experience also matches.
