2022 BMW i4 M50 Review: Quiet but Fun!

The 2022 BMW i4 M50 made it quietly onto our driveway for a week. Now it may have been audibly quiet, but visually, this thing was loud! The flat blue paint finish was getting everyone’s attention and was easy to spot in a parking lot. It also helps that the front end of the 4-Series has an aggressive look. I know that the big grille isn’t for everyone, but in the EV design world, I’d say it fits well. The big 20” open design wheel allowed for the blue calipers to peek through. The exterior carbon fiber option adds subtle touches to break up all the blue.

Getting inside, the tan colored interior was a nice combination with the blue exterior. The seats were comfortable but bolstered enough to keep you in place when you activate the G-forces with your right foot. The steering wheel had a nice M-style blue and red stitching on it. The feedback was also great and communicated what the tires were doing. The infotainment screen was big and clear. I didn’t like the user interface as it was riddled with an overwhelming amount of apps to change different things in the car.

Under the hood, we have the dual all-electric motors spinning 536 horsepower and 586 lb.-ft. of torque. That helped move the i4 from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. The i4 also had a video game-like boost that would last 15 seconds and then a cool down period of 15 seconds. Let’s just say that if you were to deplete the 15 seconds of boost, you’ll easily be over 100 mph!

After the week with the 2022 BMW i4 M50, the 4-series gran coupe exterior design started to grow on me, largely due to the incredible blue color. The performance was incredible but I think I prefer the slower M440i which entertained my ears with the sound of fossil fuels being burned.
