2021 Ford Bronco Outer Banks Review: Off-Roading with style
The 2021 Ford Bronco Outer Banks definitely got everyone’s attention. The many Bronco trims serve different purposes and Ford says the Outer Banks trim is the off-roading with style Bronco. You’ll want to spend some time on the Ford website to determine which is the best trim for you. Based on my love for speed, the Wildtrak is best suited for my high speed off-roading needs.
The new Bronco’s retro inspired styling has been such a hit and when you add the Rapid Red color to the mix, you’ll have many eyes on you. The bigger standard 18” wheels are geared more towards an appearance of city driving that the optional 17” wheels that favor off roading. That’s not to take anything away from the off road capability that the Bronco has at any trim level. The Outer Banks also comes with colored fender covers but I do prefer the black colored ones to accent the wheels.
We get inside and we see some navy and brown interior. The color selection may not be for everyone but there is a space gray and navy option as well. As a fan of quirky interior colors, I felt like the brown is the way to go. The seats themselves were very comfortable and easy to adjust for finding that sweet spot. Outer Banks will not have the front locker options but does have an optional rear locker available. The massive screen is one of my favorite SYNC 4 system which allows wireless Apple CarPlay.
Under the hood we have the optional 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine with the 10-speed automatic. I’d love to have the option of the 2.7L with a manual option. The previous Bronco I reviewed was a manual and the clutch and gears were great. The only issue is that the gearing didn’t quite match with the 2.3L inline 4-cylinder’s power band and the V6 would provide the extra power needed. Overall, the drivetrain worked well for an everyday commuter.
I’ve now driven 3 different Ford Bronco trims and my favorite is still the Wildtrak. With that being said, I’ve yet to drive a Raptor trim which I can guarantee will be my favorite.
