2021 Ford Bronco: Off Roadeo Austin
When you’re offered the opportunity to drive one of the hottest mass produced vehicles in years, you cancel all your plans and say yes! That’s what happened when I was offered to drive the new 2021 Ford Bronco at the Off-Roadeo Austin location.
Having lived the majority of my life in South Florida, there aren’t many options to go rock climbing. We were more likely to encounter mud and the usual flooding during hurricane season. Not to worry Floridians, you can take the Bronco water fording up to 33.5 inches with the optional 35-inch tires installed. With my limited experience rock and trail climbing, I was ready to use the G.O.A.T (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) modes to help this rookie.
Much like the website, we had a large number of trims and options to choose from. I went with a 4-door model because it would be the one I would need to be able to get my wife and 6-year old kid comfortably in the Bronco. After that, I looked for something with a loud and bright color because after all, this is the kind of vehicle that you want to stand out in. The Cyber Orange as the first color that caught my attention but saw it was a 2-door model. That’s when I realized the 4-door model that wasn’t a Shadow Black or an Antimatter Blue, was the clean Oxford White. I wasn’t completely sold on it but when we got out of our Broncos, it kept catching everyone’s attention as well as mine.
I was glad that my White Bronco was equipped with the larger 2.7L EcoBoost engine. The 330 horsepower and 415 lb-ft. of torque connected to the 10-speed auto, was plenty to make the Off-Roadeo Austin event easy to overcome even the most difficult obstacle. The twin-turbochargers had an addicting sound so get ready for lower MPGs but more smiles!
The Wildtrak model I had, came with seven G.O.A.T modes including Baja. With my love for speed, the Baja mode helped the Bronco seem extremely nimble and responsive when I commanded it to make the turns on the dirt track. As I mentioned many times at the event, the Bronco was defying physics in how nimble it was for a vehicle that has a weight range of 4661-5320 lbs.
The Bronco Off-Roadeo event was successful in making me want a Bronco. I already had my eyes set on either a Wrangler or a 4Runner, but after experiencing the Bronco, I’m ready to wait in line along with the others that have placed their orders.
