2020 BMW M2 CS Review: The Perfect Car

How do you create perfection? You build the 2020 BMW M2 CS. When the M2 CS was delivered, we were told that we were going to love this one. The loaner car we were trading for it, had nearly twice as much power and didn’t think that would be true. The perfection part isn’t just about have a ton of power in a car, it’s about all the different components coming into harmony. The BMW M2 CS definitely is a harmonious sports car.

Starting with the outside, it was easy to spot the Misano Blue Metallic color in parking lots full of gray, black, and white cars. It commanded attention from everyone that we drove by. The aggressive front end also helped it become an attention magnet. The 19” gold wheels were also a great complimentary color. The opened split 5 spoke wheel design helped show off the $8500 carbon brakes that this one was equipped with.

Adding to the CS part of this M2 was carbon parts all over. Starting in the front, you get a front splitter. Even though it was fairly low, it was high enough that we avoided scraping the beautiful composite material. The next item was the carbon fiber hood that donned a three hole design to help expel the heat. Getting to the sides, you get carbon fiber mirrors with the E36 M3 style openings that are a great tribute to it. Up top, you’re crowned with a large patterned carbon roof that mimics the look of a checkered flag. At the back, the rear carbon fiber diffuser helps frame the quad-exhaust. Then finally in the rear, you get a subtle but beautiful carbon fiber rear spoiler.

You get inside and you’re immediately presented with racing style bucket seats. They are leather wrapped with the iconic ///M colors stitching as well as a badge with the M2 logo just in case you forget what car you’re driving. The dashboard also has the CS logo on it to let you know that this isn’t just a standard M2.

The fun part of this BMW M2 CS is how harmonious the engine is with the rest of the drivetrain. Even though ours only had 2 pedals, the M Double-clutch transmission was one of the best non-manual transmission we’ve ever experience. There was a slight engagement behavior that you do need to get used to when accelerating from a stop. Other than that, the shifts were extremely fast when you pressed the paddle shifters or on the shifters itself.
