2024 Toyota Prius Limited AWD Review: Love at 5th Gen
As enthusiasts, you’re told you’re not supposed to like the Prius. I think Toyota took that personally and designed the fifth generation model. The 2024 Toyota Prius Limited AWD was the model we got for the week. To start, the Reservoir Blue color resembled a blueberry and I actually got a compliment from a couple at the supermarket. The new gen sports a steeper wedge design to make it sleeker through the air. Even though the headlight design is really slim, they provided very clear output. With the 19-inch wheels, you’ll fill the wheel wells but the tires and suspension are still tuned to make sure the ride is nice and comfortable.
Getting in, this Prius Limited was optioned out with the light gray option that borders more white than gray. I was surprised to see how clean the seats are since lighter colored interiors usually show wear by the time I get the press car. I was conflicted with the steering wheel and gauge cluster layout. I loved the positioning of the gauge cluster being very close to my line of sight to the street. The issue I encountered was that the steering wheel would need to be all the way down in order not to block the cluster. The only thing I think that could remedy would be a steeper angle of the steering wheel. On the other hand, the infotainment screen was incredible with a large and clear screen that didn’t obstruct my view.
Under the hood, the 2.0L hybrid engine outputs a combined 196 horsepower. This Prius was the AWD model and it performed great at getting the power down when we had slick roads. Be aware that if you opt for the AWD model, your gas tank will be reduced from 11.3 to 10.5 gallons. I was also surprised to see that we were about the mid 30 MPGs compared to the 49 combined that they state. That’s when I realized that I had been heavy footed with the Prius because it was a fun little car to zip around in.
Overall, it was a week of firsts for me with driving the 2024 Toyota Prius Limited AWD. It’s also a first with me saying that I like the Prius. Toyota has done a great job with the styling to attract new eyes, and then offered a great overall package to make them new Prius owners.
