2024 Ford Bronco Sport Review: Small Bronco, Big Fun
The 2024 Ford Bronco Sport receives similar criticism of the old Bronco II, where off-road enthusiasts say its not a true Bronco. After the week I had it, I can say that it still captures an essence not many car companies wish they could. To start on the outside, this Free Wheeling trim adds an awesome graphic package of lines ranging from red to orange to yellow. The Cactus Gray color paired well with the graphics and the race red pained wheels. Now I know that many may not want such a loud design, but I say give it a shot because everyone that saw it, loved it and we even got a few thumbs up on it!
Getting inside, the color theme continued on the inside! I was loving the cloth seats that sported the same stripe design from the exterior graphic. The cloth material felt durable and easy to clean, all while being extremely comfortable. It was a shame that the steering wheel was on the plain side and didn’t follow the theme of the red/orange/yellow stitching found throughout the rest of the interior. The infotainment system also needs updating to include Apple Wireless CarPlay communication to make the most of the wireless charger option.
Under the hood, this Bronco Sport had the 1.5L 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine connected to the 8-speed automatic, and then to the 4x4 system. I was surprised at how audible the turbo was, and soon became addicting to make it flutter. I will say that the gearing seemed a little long for 3rd and 4th, so city passing may be a little slower than 1st to 2nd shifting. The suspension was dialed in perfectly to absorb the road and provide a comfortable ride.
Overall, I’d say the Bronco Sport is a true Bronco in spirit! Sure it can’t go off-roading like the larger standard Bronco, bit it isn’t going to cost as much. It still has the spirit of a great package that will want you to go out on adventures which is what the Bronco brand is all about. I have to admit that I was considering trading in my wife’s Chevy Trailblazer for a Bronco Sport. My personal build would be the Badlands trim with the larger 2.0L EcoBoost engine, the advanced 4x4 system, and the off-road suspension package.
