2022 Genesis G80 AWD Review: Luxury at a Bargain

The 2022 Genesis G80 AWD’s goal is to conquer the sports luxury saloon category. The Siberian Ice color shifted from a bright white in the sun, to a light gray in the shade. The unique quad-LED headlights were one of my favorite things, from the long list of favorites, that the G80 had me admiring. The massive crest grille also had a dark chrome finish which caused it to reflect surrounding colors more than the typical mirror reflection of true chrome. The 20” classic 5-spoke wheels with a slight directional design to add to the Genesis’ incredible design.

The Genesis G80’s interior was a surprise to see. The seats had a “V” shaped stitching pattern on the Nappa leather seating area. The pattern is where you’ll feel either the heating or venting that is equipped in this G80. On the steering wheel, you’ll feel a nice leather finish on it. Volume and gauge cluster scroll wheels remind me of my favorite Mercedes volume knobs. Although the infotainment system screen is nice and wide, it did lack wireless Apple CarPlay functions which should be a standard offering in present day vehicles. I was glad this G80 had the carbon fiber trim added because it did have a wheat cracker like pattern which looked great.

Under the hood, the twin turbo V6 was a blast to get roaring. Going through the 8-speeds was a breeze for the turbos. Another favorite item on the Genesis G80 was its rear wheel steering. It does get some time to get used to it, as you’ll often see yourself over turning the wheel in slower turns. The pivot point of the G80 also feels more centralized which allowed for easy parking in the tightest spots.

The 2022 Genesis G80 AWD has gotten the attention of many consumers. It has become the bargain alternative to the European luxury sedans. Even though it has a lower price point than its competition, it still manages to deliver the same or better than its competitors.
