The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is just an F-150 with an EV power plant. That’s not a bad thing as the F-150 has been the best selling vehicle in the US for many years. When you look at it from the outside, there are a couple of things that will give away the otherwise normal looking F-150. The first and most obvious is the front lighting. I’ve labeled it the Ultimate Warrior front after the wrestler’s iconic face painting. The front grille is also blocked off since the traditional sized radiator isn’t needed in this.

You open the front trunk, or frunk, and you get the storage space I’ve always wanted in a truck. One of the biggest things with trucks is the lack of covered storage unless you have a bed cover. The frunk lets you go to the store, pick up some items, and store them out of thieves sight. You’ll no longer need to have a blanket to cover you items in the cab.

You get in and the interior is your typical F-150 but with a twist. That twist happens to be the infotainment screen being turned vertical from the usual horizontal orientation. The layout to the screen made me forget about my love for the horizontal screen. My favorite design aspect was definitely the center placed volume knob with part of the screen still showing in the middle of it. The screen was as sharp and bright as can be and hoping this gets added to the other F-150 lineup.

With this being an EV, I knew I was in for some instant torque but I underestimated it in the Lightning. The dual motors spinning 775 lb.-ft. of torque initially got me sick because my focus point was not far out enough for the speed this F-150 has. I now know to look even further out when accelerating hard, or else what you try to focus on, will already be behind you!

Overall I think Ford did great with the Lighting. It is a F-150 that just happens to be an EV.
