2022 BMW M240i xDrive Review: The Perfect Car is Even Better

How do you make the already perfect BMW M2? I’m not sure but I’m glad that the 2022 BMW M240i xDrive did just that! When I tested the M2 CS last year, I was blown away at how incredible that car felt. It was the epitome of a drivers car and that claim was with an automatic transmission. Every sports car I’ve driven afterwards has been compared to it. The impact that it left on me was everlasting.

That’s when the new reworked M240i xDrive showed up in my driveway. The Thundernight Metallic color made it stand out. It was reminiscent of the Techno Violet color that was used in the BMW E36 M3. The added shadow line option blacks out the triangle shaped trims in the front bumper and blends well with the purple color. Thankfully the front grille maintained a smaller sized compared to the 3 and 4- Series, that went with the larger size. The added curtain-like effect helps make the engine breath in more air when you decide to press that Sports mode.

Getting inside, you’re greeted with the usual BMW interior. This M240i was equipped with the black leather and blue stitched seats. They were incredibly comfortable but the heated function was really narrow and not as usable as other systems. The premium leather on the steering wheel felt great along with the great road feedback it communicated.

Under the hood is what made the M240i a blast to drive. The 3.0L inline turbocharged 6-cylinder was a smile inducer at any RPM range! The sounds during downshifts made it addicting to go into manual mode in the 8-speed automatic. Now even though I’ve driven more powerful and faster cars, they didn’t quite have the feeling of the M240i.

After driving the 2022 BMW M240i xDrive, I kept trying to see how I could financially have one parked in my garage. I didn’t think any car would top the incredible feeling of the previous M2, but BMW did it. To think, this isn’t even considered the “M” model.
